Dromana Life Saving Club

Project description

For this project I was asked to design a Dromana Life Saving Club. I visited and surveyed the site, noting all levels and landscape. The design had to blend into its surroundings, allow for a lookout tower, boat storage, first aid area, kiosk and cafe. It required enhancement of the surrounding area, limiting harmful water runoff into the ocean, and to harvest the water for reuse.

The main features of the design included;

  • The green roof. Small grass and seadem, as well as a small tree growing on the roof. By sloping the roof very slightly, allows water to drain off the building into the catchment areas whilst enhancing views from the street scape giving the impression that the building is part of the tree canopy.
  • Herringbone cladding. Another impressive feature which surrounds and softens the building giving it detail and texture.
  • The bridge underpass. This gives boats access to the beach whilst allowing occupants to walk around the entire building.
  • Cafe. Exstensive indoor outdoor cafe area allowing guests to take full advantage of the ocean views.
